Priorities and Activities

The Centre for Security Science (the Centre) functions within a conceptual structure provided by the Federal S&T Enterprise Framework. The Enterprise Framework takes a holistic view of how federally led science and technology (S&T) can contribute to the Canadian economy and society. Security and Defence is one of the five domains within the Enterprise Framework. The national security mission is to protect the security of Canada and Canadians by enhancing public safety, security, and emergency preparedness within an open society.

The Centre’s activities include

  • coordinating an S&T development program with a range of federal partners;

  • funding exercises for the integration of S&T support and advice into operational response;

  • carrying out technology forecasting, risk assessment, and capability-based process management; and

  • coordinating international activities.

The Centre builds on a foundation of public policy to achieve the operational capability that ensures the success of the Centre’s mission critical outcomes. The Centre coordinates the Government of Canada’s public security science and technology approach for the 21 science-based departments and agencies involved in public security activities. The work of the Centre is focused on four mission areas.
